Dr. Nathan Nagir
Dr. Nathan Nagir is a proud Texas State University alumnus and a faculty member in the School of Music, where he primarily teaches the Graduate Choral Literature sequence within the Choral Department.
Before returning to Texas State, Dr. Nagir served as Director of Choral Studies at Wright State University. In that role, he led the graduate program in Choral Conducting; taught courses in Conducting, Choral Literature, Music History, Choral Music Education Methods, and Applied Conducting; and conducted the Tenor-Bass Chorus, University Singers, and the Collegiate Chorale.
A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Nagir is an active conductor, accompanist, vocalist, and educator. He has led children’s, youth, and adult choirs in national competitions and worked extensively with primary and secondary school music programs. His ensemble, Harmonies Aloud, has performed for state events including at the Diplomatic Centre and the Office of the Prime Minister. He also serves as guest conductor to The Marionettes Chorale in T&T, working alongside Maestra Gretta Taylor, Music and Artistic Director.
Dr. Nagir holds a Certificate in Steelpan Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of the West Indies, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Texas State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin.
