Fall 2026 auditions will be held August 15-17. Click here to fill out the audition form and sign up for a time.

Auditions will consist of sight-reading, vocalization, and a 60-second vocal excerpt.

  • We understand there may be anxiety with auditions, so you're welcome to register and attend either the Treble Voice Choir or the Men's Choirs without an audition. For those who do audition, each person is placed into a choral ensemble.  No one is turned away.

  • In your audition, you will go to two rooms. In the first room, you will sight-read a small portion of music. Do not worry about this part… this is simply something that will let us know where you are in your music journey. You can always choose not to sight-read if you have never done so before, or if you are anxious. In the second room, we will find your general range and hear you sing. You can bring a song you’ve prepared (new voice students, please be prepared to sing your song for NVSO), or you can sing the Happy Birthday song. We will hear no more than 60 seconds of you singing, so do not worry about preparing an entire piece. We will not have a pianist/accompanist, so please be prepared to sing a cappella.

  • During your audition, the choral faculty will assess various aspects of your singing and musical skills. Once all auditions have been heard, students will be placed in ensembles based on their current abilities. Consideration is also given to section balance in each choir.

  • Yes. All choral ensembles are 1-credit classes. It is against University policy to have current Texas State students participate in any class without being registered.

  • Yes, you can adjust your schedule as needed based choir placement after auditions.
